Comprehensive Interpreting Services: Our interpreters are qualified to interpret in any situation for any Deaf individual regardless of their language preference. We are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Our vast knowledge of language modes for the Deaf include: ASL (American Sign Language), PSE (Pidgin Signed English), CASE (Conceptually Accurate Signed English), SEE (Signed Exact English), Deaf/Blind (tactile interpreting for people with limited vision or totally blind), and Oral Interpreting.
Communication Development Specialists The Communication Development Specialists (CDS) is a group of highly trained Deaf individuals that works primarily to provide training or assistance to consumers who have hearing loss and who also possess minimal language skills. The CDS serves as consultants for communication assessment in various settings when staff or caregivers need effective communication tools for their Deaf consumers. The CDS is trained to work with various adaptive equipment, to assist service providers in developing communication programs for their consumers who are Deaf, and to communicate understanding about Deaf culture.
Job Coaching Deaf Way provides assistance with employment issues that may develop in the course of employing a person who is Deaf. The role of the job coach is to act as a liaison between employer and employee to eliminate any barriers that may arise on the job due to Deafness. This includes job assessment, training in Deaf culture, teaching effective communication to the hearing and Deaf in the workplace, and making resources available to both the employer and the employee.
Job coaching is a skill that our Communication Development Specialists possess. All job coaches are deaf or hard of hearing to serve as appropriate role developers in the employment or mental health arena.
Training Sign Language Classes for individuals or groups. Let DEAF Ways' staff of trained professionals work with your organization to teach sign language targeted to a variety of settings from on the job signs for hearing and Deaf to life saving signs in emergencies.
TTY training for large companies or small groups. Do you have a TTY in your building collecting dust because no one knows how to use it? Let DEAF Ways' CDS staff train your employees on proper use and etiquette for TTY. We also provide train for your staff to recognize and respond appropriately to calls from Deaf people through the Missouri Relay system.
