VIDEO REMOTE INTERPRETING DEAF Way introduces an alternative to interpreting Video Remote Interpreting (VRI) utilizes video-conf erencing equipment to provide sign language interpreting services to a remote location. With VRI, both the deaf client and hearing customer are in the same room, while the interpreter is at another location. VRI uses the latest internet technology for access to sign language interpreting services without an interpreter onsite. With a computer and high-speed internet connection, customers can have instant access to DEAF Way’s certified and licensed interpreters.
HOW IT WORKS Video–conferencing equipment is installed in the room where the deaf client and hearing customer are meeting. The interpreter signs everything the hearing person speaks into the camera. The deaf person can see the interpreter on a monitor. When the deaf person replies, the interpreter sees and voices the deaf client’s response. Through DEAF Way’s VRI, the deaf and hearing person can converse, as if the interpreter was in the same room!
Video Remote Interpreting utilizes Video Conferencing technology operating at 30 frames per second. Individuals, companies, hospitals, schools and state and federal agencies can now easily fulfill the requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) by using DEAF Way’s VRI service.
This cutting edge service overcomes barriers often faced by Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing individuals. It also assists organizations that face challenges in providing appropriate accommodations, as required by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), that are HIPAA compliant.
LONG-TERM BENEFITS The overriding benefit of VRI is the assurance that a qualified, experienced sign language interpreter will be available for emergency situations and pre-scheduled appointments. VRI reduces the high travel costs for interpreters. With DEAF Way VRI:
• NO PORTAL TO PORTAL or MILEAGE expense • ONE HOUR based charges • Interpreters available Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM • Interpreters are Missouri Licensed and Certified
